Mechanicsburg woman accused of faking cancer

URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – A Mechanicsburg woman is accused of stealing money by claiming she has cancer.

A Champaign County grand jury indicted Heather Gaus, 34, on theft and receiving stolen property charges.

The Urbana Citizen reports that she took money donated to her during a benefit to help her in her battle against cancer.

The indictment also indicates that a web site was set up for people to donate.

An exact amount of money was not released, but the indictment says it was between $1,000 and $7,500.

Gaus is scheduled for arraignment May 20.
