OSP on the lookout for impaired drivers

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding drivers not to get behind the wheel this Memorial Day if they are impaired by drugs or alcohol.

Troopers are working with local law enforcement to keep the roads safe.

In 2014, OSP made 763 OVI arrests during the Memorial Day holiday. Thirteen people were killed in crashes over the long weekend.

In addition, as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign running through May 31, troopers will have a zero tolerance policy for seat belt violations. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, safety belts saved an estimated 12,174 lives nationwide in 2012.

You are encouraged to call #677 to report impaired drivers or drug activity.
