BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – Fitworks in Beavercreek is working to get the doors open after the May 26 tornado that damaged the business.
Beairshelle Edmé took an exclusive tour inside the Fitworks Monday.
It’s the first time we’re seeing the magnitude of the damage inside the gym.
One step at a time,” that’s how General Manager Chad Florence plans to deal with the clean-up at his gym.
Tiles dangle above what use to be a fully functioning Juice Bar, while light panels hang off the hinges one after the other.
It’s not the facility Florence is use to managing.
He passes by several utility fans that hope to dry out the water-damaged carpets, which have left behind a funky smell filling the entire building.
No one is lifting weights or running on the treadmill.
But with some work, Fitworks expects members will be back to their normal routine sometime this week, at the earliest Wednesday.
“Most of that stuff up there is really– there’s some structural damage where the roof lifted and the facade actually fell back and smashed the roof. Once we get those things structurally sound, then it’s just going to put everything back together. The ceiling tiles– and we’re going to redo the front area of the bar because of the water damage. It needs to be all torn out,” Florence described the repairs.
The GM says he expects the work will happen sooner than later.
Florence says the City of Beavercreek has been very helpful, making sure that inspections were timely.
And he says the community has been right by his side as well.
“It’s been positive for sure,” he reflected. “A lot of feedback from our members and even people that aren’t our members. They’ve hit our Facebook page up to say, ‘So glad everybody’s okay.’ It’s been pretty cool with them stepping up and giving us a lot of support like that.”
In fact, Florence says he’s taking those well wishes and attitudes towards bettering the gym with some more upgrades.
The gym hopes to fully reopen on Wednesday.
