Dayton to offer new teachers $1K stipend

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The City of Dayton and the Dayton Public Schools are offering an incentive to attract teachers to the district.

The city announced a new Live Dayton, Teach Dayton program.

First year teachers who sign a contract with participating schools are eligible for a $1,000 living stipend. The teacher must also live within Dayton city limits to be eligible.

The stipend can be used for rental expenses or as a down payment on a house or condo.

50 living stipends will be distributed.

The program is a direct result of Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley’s City of Learners initiative launched in 2014.

The city plans to formally announce the Live Dayton, Teach Dayton program Thursday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
