SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – A Clark County man is accused of killing a 16-month-old boy.
Clark County prosecutors say Brett Meddock, 20, is charged with murder, manslaughter, felonious assault and child endangering.
2 NEWS spoke with the boy’s father Tuesday evening. “I feel relieved, like he can rest and so can we,” said Jordan Payne about the indictment. He says the suspect is the mother’s boyfriend. The father identifies the boy as Kaden Justin Payne. Jordan says the boy’s middle name is in honor of his brother, Justin and that today is his little brother’s birthday.
“He had a lot of people who loved him,” he said. “He touched a lot of hearts…you meet him once and you’d fall in love with him.”
The Clark County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide. The boy died of blunt force trauma to the head, torso and neck. He died back in January.
Meddock was arrested by U.S. Marshals Tuesday morning in Springfield.
He is expected into court for arraignment by the end of the week.
