DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – This is the busy season for home renovations and local companies are feeling it.

A recent report shows the value of Dayton homes for the month of May is a record breaker.

Mike Cheatwood has worked for the Do It Yourself Rental in Dayton since it opened in 1994. Cheatwood says over the years one thing is for sure, when people have money to spend, they do.

“When the economy is up, it helps everybody” said Cheatwood.

The latest Dayton home sale figures released for May reports the average sale price for a home in the area is above $150,000. That figure is a record breaker – the highest average monthly sales price on record for any month in the Dayton area.

Cheatwood says either way the business keeps moving forward

“The economy, when it’s up we get more contractors, when it’s down we get more homeowners” said Cheatwood. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
