Ohio man gets life in beating death of toddler son

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio man has been sentenced him to life in prison for beating his 2-year-old son to death.

22-year-old Samuel Oliver was sentenced Monday in Toledo after pleading guilty to murder in the June 2014 death of his son Delayno. The Lucas County coroner said the child died from multiple blunt-force injuries to his head and body.

The Toledo Blade reports that Oliver apologized to the mother of their son and to his family in court before the sentencing. He will be eligible for parole after 15 years.

Oliver called 911 that day and said his son was unresponsive. The child was pronounced dead at a hospital.
