SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – Area law enforcement are being asked to wear a mourning sash on their badges in honor of a Cincinnati police officer shot and killed.

Officer Sonny Kim was killed during a shootout with a suspect on Friday, June 19.

The Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association wants officers across the state to wear the sashes until sundown June 26 in Officer Kim’s honor.

We did some checking and both the Dayton Police Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office are wearing the sashes as is the Kettering Police Department.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly issued the following statement:

“As a show of Support for our Sisters and Brothers in Cincinnati all members of the Clark County Sheriff’s Office shall wear a Mourning Sash on our Badges Until Sun down on Friday June 26th, 2015 in Honor of Slain Cincinnati Officer Sonny Kim.”

Officer Kim was a 27-year veteran of the police force. His funeral is set for Friday.
