DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A 17-year-old is facing charges of aggravated menacing and inducing panic after threatening to harm himself.
Officers were called to Linden Ave. around 1:30 a.m. Thursday for the report of a suicidal teen with a gun. Two women who with him said they felt threatened.
The women came out of the house when police arrived and were moved to safety.
Officers made contact with the teen over the phone and convinced him to surrender after about 15 minutes.
Sgt. Clarence West said the teen came out with his hands up and laid down on the porch. He was taken into custody without incident.
Officers recovered the weapon from the home; it turned out to be a very realistic BB gun.
“It even had rounds that you could stick in the cylinder, made it look like it was real,” said Sgt. West.
“They’re making these BB guns and toy guns look so real. If somebody had drawn that on me, I would have returned fire. You just can’t take the chance nowadays whether it’s real or fake, you don’t know.”
The teen was taken to the Montgomery County Juvenile Justice Center.
