KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – A Kettering wrestler who was severely injured while practicing for a tournament suffered a stroke.

Fairmont High School issued an update about Ahmad Doucet on its Facebook page.

The open letter says Ahmad suffered a stroke while practicing wrestling techniques. He is hospitalized and is not responsive.

The letter goes on to say:

The impact of this stroke on Ahmad has been significant. Ahmad has suffered a catastrophic injury to his brain stem that has resulted in severe brain damage. In the short-term, Ahmad is expected to be in the hospital for many weeks. Moving forward will entail an extensive, long-term rehabilitation. Although this is the opinion of the medical staff Ahmad’s family is still holding out hope for a miracle.

The family extends its thanks for the outpouring of concern for Ahmad. They ask that everyone continue to pray for their son.
