CINCINNATI (AP) – Thousands of people, including hundreds of police officers from around the country gathered Friday for the funeral of a slain Cincinnati police officer.
The funeral for Officer Sonny Kim concluded just before 1:00 p.m. A procession to his final resting place followed to the Cincinnati suburb of Montgomery for a private burial service.
Police say the 27-year veteran was killed June 19 by an armed suspect who had made 911 calls and was seeking “suicide by cop.” The suspect was killed by police.
The public was urged to wear blue-colored clothing on Friday. Hundreds lined the streets during the funeral procession.
Members of the public were able to pay their respects to Kim at a visitation Thursday at Xavier University’s Cintas Center.
Several Dayton police officers were among the Miami Valley law enforcers who attended. Most local police departments wore black sashes over their badges this week in honor of Officer Kim.
