DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Wedding bells all over the country will be ringing after the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage, and that also means wedding businesses will be booming.
2 NEWS stopped by Ashley’s Pastry Shop in Oakwood Friday. Bakers said they’ve already received calls this past week and even Friday morning about wedding cakes. The store has been open for 33 years and said it’s excited to support all couples, ready for the cake rush.
“I just think it’s really important that we recognize true happiness is what it’s really all about, and we’re happy to be part of everyone’s celebrations, weddings, anniversaries, everything we can do,” said Teresa Hammons, owner of Ashley’s Pastry Shop.
Likewise, Flowerama in Kettering said the decision to allow all same sex couples to marry changes the game in floral design. The shop said it’s already preparing for an increase in business and is ready to be part of once in a lifetime celebrations.
“I would imagine it’s going to increase sales overall but mostly in the wedding factor, because people are going to be doing more weddings,” said floral designer George Bryson. “There’s going to be more events going on, different things like that. And I think that a large part of the gay community is going to do things a little over the top especially in the next year or so because it’s their opportunity to shine finally.”
Both the pastry and floral shop say if you are planning a wedding in the near future, get your orders in early because they are expecting an influx of customers.
