Holiday traffic trouble by the numbers

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A fair share of drivers ended up with traffic citations over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says hundreds were handed out in each of the six immediate counties in the 2 NEWS viewing area.

Here is the number of citations issued per county:

  • Clark County – 485
  • Greene County – 494
  • Miami County – 388
  • Montgomery County – 492
  • Preble County – 214

More sobering numbers include one fatality in Montgomery County and there were several OVI arrests.

Here is the number of OVI arrests issued per county:

  • Clark County – 11
  • Greene County – 7
  • Miami County – 6
  • Montgomery County – 29
  • Preble County – 0

The OSP says statewide it made 690 arrests for impaired driving.  There were 643 crashes.  More than 6,000 people were cited for not wearing a seat belt.

AAA said it expected a record number of motorists on the road this year.
