PIQUA, Ohio (WDTN) – A Piqua woman is out of jail on bond after she was charged following the disappearance of a 4-year-old child.
Elaine Werling, 39, is charged with two misdemeanor charges of child endangering.
The little girl disappeared early Friday morning, July 3. She was last seen sleeping on a couch at a home at 120 Sherman Street.
The Piqua Police Department activated its missing child protocol which included off-duty resources to come in and look for the child.
The child was found safe about three hours later.
Officers say they then focused on whether drugs played a role in the incident.
Werling spent the weekend in jail. She posted a $5,000 bond Monday morning and now awaits her next court appearance.
It is not clear whether Werling is related to the child.
