Dayton chosen for national learning initiative

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The City of Dayton is one of seven cities nationwide chosen to take part in a new initiative to improve the lives of children.

Dayton will be a part of the City Leadership for Building an Early Learning Nation. It is designed to prepare children for a successful future.

“Our city understands the importance of having programs in place to aid in the healthy development of our youngest citizens,” said Mayor Nan Whaley. “By making meaningful connections to our education providers and community partners, we are able to predict future outcomes in our city as related to economic development and future growth.”

Organizers plan to develop a playbook that will highlight Dayton and other cities’ best practices in early education and healthy child development.

Dayton’s City of Learners initiative is one reason for the selection. The mayor launched it in early 2014 as a citywide effort to support Dayton Public Schools and help students achieve higher levels of success in the classroom and in the workforce later in life. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
