SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – 2 NEWS has obtained a copy of a letter of apology written by Tina Harper, the woman accused of stealing from a funeral fund.
In a letter written on a Sheriff’s Office official statement form, Tina Harper said she is sorry for “the absolutely horrible mistake” she made “taking some of the money raised for the King family.”
Harper went on to say she has never been in trouble before and will learn from this experience.
Harper is charged with telecommunications fraud for allegedly stealing from a funeral fund.
Investigators with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office say 24-year-old Tina Harper created a fundraising page through the website YouCaring.com to support the family of 13-year-old Tyree King.
King was killed on June 10, 2015 when he was hit by a pickup truck on Springfield-Xenia Rd. in Springfield Twp.
The criminal complaint against Harper states that $2,698.71 was raised after fees. King’s family received $1,643.75. Investigators say Harper kept the remaining $1,054.96 for herself.
Harper was booked into the Clark County Jail Thursday evening.
