MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) – The kickoff of the annual Ohio Challenge Hot Air Balloon Festival in Middletown was off to a soggy start Friday.
In fact, the balloon launch was scratched for Friday evening.
35 pilots made the decision. They say the fabric that makes up the balloons absorbs the rain making it that much heavier to launch.
“There’s a lot that really goes into it, but our pilots are great and they really want to give people a show. So, they really really try to make sure that when they call it, that it’s the last option,” said Patrick Venturella, Ohio Challenge Hot Air Balloon Festival.
Organizers do plan to launch Saturday, but stay close to Storm Team 2 to check out the weather conditions.
The festival is scheduled through Sunday.
