DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Fire crews were called to a house fire at 138 South Van Lear Street Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to 138 S. Van Lear at 11:15 Wednesday on reports of an attic fire. Heavy flames were showing from the top part of the building when crews arrived on the scene of the home. Crews eventually had to evacuate the building and take a defensive approach.

Dayton firefighters have responded to this address several times this summer on garage fires.

Fire investigators are working to determine a cause for this fire.

Fire officials say nobody was living inside the home at the time of the fire. The former occupants of the home moved out a little more than a week ago.

District Chief Scott Rowlett says the fire may have actually been started from inside of the home. He says he believes this case is the work of one, or multiple arsonists.
