DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Local democrats are talking to 2 NEWS about Governor John Kasich’s jump into the presidential pool.

Montgomery County Party Chairman Mark Owens, while joking a bit, says Democrats would like Kasich to leave Ohio. He says he doesn’t want to burden the rest of the country.

When it comes to the state’s economy, Owens blames Kasich for what he describes as lower job growth than the rest of the county.

“Ohio is lagging behind in the recovery. We are again 32 straight months, we are lower in our job growth rate than the rest of the country. I think that’s the number one he has shown that he cannot grow Ohio’s economy,” said Owens.

Owens blames Ohio’s low job growth on high tax breaks that were given to the top five percent during Kasich’s administration.

Former State Senator Nina Turner was at Tuesday’s announcement.  She told our Beairshelle Edme’, “He has a right to run for the president of the United States and that’s exactly what he’s doing but I do caution the voters of this state and the voters of this nation to really look at not just what candidates say but look at their track record in terms of the public policy positions that they have taken and how those policies have either helped or hurt the people that they serve, especially those who are elected to executive office at this moment.”
