DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – You can’t miss 500 people walking around Dayton.
CareSource staff were recognizing the 50th anniversary of Medicaid with a commemorative walk.
500 sets of feet stomped the pavement in downtown Dayton. They walked from their headquarters on North Main Street to the RiverScape pathway and circled the Great Miami River.
CareSource has 1.2 million people enrolled in Ohio’s Medicaid system. 180,000 of those live in Dayton and eight surrounding counties.
Medicaid provides health care for people who might otherwise not be able to afford. The program started in 1965 when President Lyndon B. Johnson signed it into law.
Those 500 walkers were probably grateful for one more thing. The heat and humidity finally let up.
