DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Dayton couple was forced to evacuate their home early Thursday morning after a neighboring vacant house catches fire.

Crews were first called to the 4600 block of St. James Avenue just before 5. When they arrived they found flames and smoke shooting from the roof and upstairs windows.

The flames were so intense the siding to a nearby home started to burn and the couple inside had to evacuate.

They were eventually allowed to go back inside after about 90 minutes.

No one was hurt. Officials are calling the fire suspicious. An arson investigator has been called to figure out how the fire started. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
