DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Friday is the first day of a weekend full of tax savings for Ohio shoppers.

A tax free holiday from August 7 through August 9 will spare you sales tax on some school supplies.

So, as you head to the store to shop for the school year, you’ll want to check the list of eligible products in which you will not be charged sales tax.

In general, the state will exempt sales tax and use tax on the following items:

  • Clothing priced at $75 per item or less
  • School supplies priced at $20 per item or less
  • School instructional material priced at $20 per item or less

Items used in a trade or business are not included. However, online sales do qualify for the exemption if your order is placed and paid for during the tax holiday. If all of the items in your shipment qualify, then the shipping and handling charges are not taxable.

You can call 1-800-304-3211 for more information.
