DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Quad Cities River Bandits broke open a 2-0 game with eight runs over their final two offensive innings to defeat the Dayton Dragons 10-0 on Saturday night. The win was the 12th straight for the River Bandits. The Dragons dropped to 1-4 on their six-game road trip that will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
The River Bandits scored an unearned run in the third inning and added a single run in the sixth to lead 2-0. The Dragons loaded the bases with no one out in the seventh, getting a lead-off double from Gavin LaValley followed by a single by Argenis Aldazoro and a walk to Narciso Crook. But Garrett Boulware struck out and Luis Gonzalez grounded into an inning-ending double play. Quad Cities then added two runs in the bottom of the seventh and added six in the eighth to close out the scoring.
Dragons starting pitcher Wyatt Strahan (6-9) suffered a hard-luck loss. He tossed six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
The Dragons collected just five hits. LaValley had a double and two walks to lead the offense.
The Dragons (18-24 in the second half; 57-55 overall) close out the six-game road trip on Sunday afternoon when they battle the River Bandits (29-13, 74-36) at 2:15 p.m. (EDT). Tejay Antone (5-9, 3.10) will start for Dayton against Brock Dykxhoorn (6-3, 3.50). The next Dragons home game is Tuesday, August 11 vs. the Peoria Chiefs.
