DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton Police Department says it will be aggressively looking for traffic violators this weekend.

Police will conduct a Safe Communities Through Aggressive Traffic Enforcement initiative from August 14 through August 16.

SCATE works to decrease the number of OVI related traffic fatalities and injuries in the city, which are up nearly 100 percent from the same time last year.

The initiative uses high-visibility enforcement, specialized computer mapping and public relations to reduce crash numbers, but also seize drugs and capture fugitives.

The SCATE initiative in July resulted in 12 OVI arrests, seven felony arrests, 34 speeding tickets and drug arrests among others.
