Police: Shooting victim left illegal liquor joint

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man who was shot early Friday morning outside an illegal liquor joint in Dayton has died.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identifies the man as George Dewberry, 24.  Investigators say he died from a gunshot to the neck.  They ruled his death a homicide.

Officers first responded to the corner of Hoover Avenue and Anna Street around 4:30 a.m. on a report of shots fired.  Another call came a short time later that said someone was shot in the 400 block of Anna Street.

Police say someone shot at the victim and a second man as they were leaving an illegal liquor establishment.  Two nearby houses were struck by stray bullets.

Officers have now served a nuisance abatement at the liquor joint.  A search is underway for a suspect.
