SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – The Springfield Board of Education approved covering the cost of pay-to-play fees among other items during Thursday’s meeting.
Board members gave the green light to transferring $15,000 to the athletic department to cover all athletic participation costs plus another $15,000 to cover participation costs for the high school marching band.
The district did away with pay to play fees back in 2013.
Thursday’s action means parents again won’t have to foot the bill for their children to play sports.
There was also a discussion about moving the football team out of Evans Stadium.
“I think it would be wrong for them to close it and leave an empty hole there,” said Springfield resident Rev. Steven Edwards. “It’s like they what they say about our souls being empty. The whoel area would be empty.”
The board says it’s still a long way from making any decision regarding the stadium.
