DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Dayton NAACP and local church groups launched a campaign Saturday against the Dayton Together Initiative.

The Citizens Against Dayton Together Initiative is in opposition of the proposal of merging the Dayton governments and Montgomery County.

Montgomery County Commissioner Dan Foley is the biggest supporter for the initiative.

NAACP members say the merger will negatively impact city services and disenfranchise Dayton’s 140,000 residents.

“I think this will be a good start for the citizens to speak up right here in Montgomery County,” said Derrick L. Foward, President of the Dayton NAACP.

A draft of the Dayton Together Initiative city-county charter is expected in December and may go to voters in the November 2016 election. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
