DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A Dayton family says it is still waiting for justice two years after a toddler was killed.
The family of Takota Hasty stood outside the Montgomery County Courthouse Tuesday demanding that the trial for the man accused of killing the boy get underway.
Takota was 19-months-old when prosecutors say he was cut, beaten and burned by his mother and her then-boyfriend. At the time, they reported that the couple tried to hide the abuse with makeup.
Court records show that Dustin Rybak, 27, was supposed to go on trial Tuesday on murder and involuntary manslaughter charges, but the trial date was pushed back.
The court records show that a scheduling conference on Monday changed the trial date to March 15, 2016.
The boy’s mother, Crystal Laurel, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges in September 2013. Part of her deal includes having to testify against her ex-boyfriend, Rybak, at trial.
Rybak is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
