Montgomery County unemployment ‘steady’ at 5.1 percent

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – New reports are helping Ohioans learn how well the job market is doing here in the region.

Friday, 2 NEWS reported about how the state is faring- Ohio unemployment at just about 5 percent. Experts said the job market is doing pretty well.

Tuesday, officials say Montgomery County unemployment numbers are just low. The new report shows that the county is right at 5.1 percent for unemployment, having hovering around that number for several months.

In an earlier report, an official with ManPower, a temporary placement agency, said he was not surprised by Friday’s state report. He also noted that there are plenty of jobs here in the Miami Valley.

The problem, he said, is there aren’t enough qualified people to fill the open positions, and that’s where Montgomery County Development Services comes in.

The organization’s officials are happy with the new report and this county’s numbers.

They say they’re ready to get people back to work in Montgomery County.

“We offer job readiness classes on a weekly biases,” Mark Anderson said. “We have resume writing, interview techniques, job search techniques so we try to prepare the job force in a way that our employers can utilize at best.”

The Job Center is open daily Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM to help you get job ready. On September 16th,  the organization will hold the Fall job fair with several major local employers.
