Police want woman’s death in city jail reviewed by state

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio (AP) — A police chief wants the death of a woman who died last month in her jail cell in northeast Ohio reviewed by state officials.

Cleveland Heights officials say police Chief Jeffrey Robertson has asked the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to investigate 37-year-old Ralkina Jones’ death.

Jones was found unresponsive in her Cleveland Heights cell on July 26 after she was arrested in a domestic violence incident. Her cause of death remains under investigation.

City Manager Tanisha Briley says Robertson also asked the state to review the city’s jail policies. Briley says the city thinks the policies approved earlier this year by the state are adequate but wants them reviewed.

A message was left at the corrections department Wednesday.
