URBANA, Ohio (WDTN) – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources released its preliminary findings following the death of a fisherman on Kiser Lake.

The report says Douglas Fiscus, 50, was fishing from an anchored kayak Sunday when he somehow fell into the water.

ODNR says it is not clear how or why Fiscus capsized.

The report says witnesses heard Fiscus calling for help, but could not see him. They called 911 for help.

Rescuers used sonar to search for Fiscus. They found his body five hours after he entered the water.

ODNR describes the death as a drowning, although coroner’s office investigators have not released an official cause of death. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
