DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified the man shot during an apparent burglary attempt in Dayton.
Investigators say DeBrandon Dickerson, 22, of Detroit, was shot and killed at a home on Richmond Avenue early Wednesday morning. They ruled the death a homicide.
Police say the homeowner shot Dickerson as he tried enter her house from a second floor window.
The homeowner told police she heard someone on the roof, so she called 911. She told officers he then came through the window and that is when she shot him.
Police say Dickerson was able to flee the scene, but he collapsed a short distance away and died. Investigators say Dickerson had a criminal record.
“He has only been in town for a week. He’s not from here, we obtained his criminal history from Michigan. Which, showed he had some misdemeanor, theft and larceny cases,” said Lt. Wendy Stiver, Dayton Police Department.
The homeowner’s brother, Efriam Goldsmith, says this isn’t the first time his sister’s house has been burglarized.
“Once last week, they took some electronics and last year, two teenagers kicked in the back door,” said Goldsmith.
2 NEWS asked Goldsmith why he thought his sister’s house is a common target.
“You can come in from the alley and no one is going to pay attention, you have two accesses that is blocked from everything, its the ideal house,” said Goldsmith.
Investigators believe Dickerson didn’t act alone. If you have any information, you are asked to call Dayton police.
