DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The fall sports season has just started, but already, Dr. Sean Convery with Premier Orthopedics says he’s treated numerous young athletes from football to soccer for concussions.”Starting back in August when practice started…sometimes the practice, the two-a-days, can cause even more concussions than when we get into the season,” said Dr. Convery.
He says it’s important for coaches, kids and parents to put health first, which can be tough given student athletes are itching to get back in the game and feel like scholarships could be on the line. He says the awareness about the danger has greatly improved and the regulations are in place to keep young athletes safe, so long as they’re followed.
However, Dr. Convery says his concern is the cumulative effect of concussions. Hear what he says about preventing, identifying and treating mild to severe concussions.
