Intruder dies after being shot inside Dayton home

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that a man has died of his injuries after being shot inside of a Dayton home.

Police were called to Richmond Avenue just after 4 a.m. on initial reports of a shooting.

Detective Richard Blommel from the Dayton Police Department told 2 NEWS Wednesday morning a woman called police when a man tried to get in her house through an upstairs window.

The suspect made it inside the house after police were called and the woman shot him. The suspect then ran went back outside and ran down the street but collapsed a short distance later. The suspects injuries are unknown and is also not known how many shots were fired.

Police found him on the street where he collapsed. He was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, but later died of his injuries.

Blommel says police were called before the man entered the home.  Few details were released Wednesday morning as police are still investigating.

Police still have to talk to witnesses and gather evidence. Blommel did tell reporters, “You have a right to protect yourself. If you fear for the safety of yourself or your family, living in America, you have the right to protect yourself.”

The names of the suspect and the victim have not been released.  The investigation continues.
