Decapitated dogs prompt police investigation

HAMILTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Hamilton police are investigating after the body of a dog was found decapitated along some railroad tracks.

Police say the dog appeared to be struck by a train between Urban and G streets.

What they want to know is what happened to a second decapitated dog at the scene whose photo showed up on social media.

Investigators say photos of both dogs surfaced Sunday.

Another social media post said the dogs were shot, although police say there were no gunshots to the dog in their possession.

Officers want to know why the dog photos were posted on Sunday, but they were not notified until Tuesday.

They say they are actively working with the Butler County dog warden to figure out whether there was any abuse that occurred to the dogs.

Their police report says it is being investigated as a cruelty to animals case. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
