MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) – A police officer is credited with helping a driver when her car caught fire following a crash early Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 4 on Chautauqua Road just west of Dayton-Cincinnati Pike.

Police believe the woman was under the influence of alcohol when she lost control in a curve. Her car flipped and went down an embankment.

There was a small fire in the engine which a Miami Township officer extinguished before fire crews arrived.

The woman was taken to Sycamore Hospital. She’s expected to be okay.

The crash remains under investigation but police say the woman will likely be charged with OVI and failure to control.
