DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – University of Dayton religious expert Joseph Valenzano, III sat down with FIVE on 2 Wednesday to give some perspective on Pope Francis’s visit to the United States.

While the Pope is visiting the center of U.S. politics in Washington, D.C., Valenzano says it does not mean he is here on a political mission.

Valenzano says the pope is working to teach a certain set of values.

“He’s trying to teach people the values of the Catholic Church,” said Valenzano. “He has a lot of the charisma of John Paul II in his connection with the public and the youth around the globe. His appeal is massive.”

Valenzano very much agrees that Pope Francis is a Pope of the people. “He appears to practice what he preaches. He meets with people. He is humble.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover. In order to comment here, you acknowledge you have read and agreed to our Terms of Service.
