DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Air Force Museum showed off its new hangar Friday and put the first aircraft inside.
The X-15 will take its place inside the fourth building at the museum. the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force broke ground on the new building in June of 2014. The new building will house aircraft from the museum’s Presidential, Research and Development (R&D) and Global Reach collection, as well as a new and expanded Space Gallery.
The 224,000 square foot building is scheduled to open to the public in June 2016. The construction was privately financed by the Air Force Museum Foundation, a non-profit organization chartered to assist in the development and expansion of the museum’s facilities.
