Bellbrook Fire holds open house

The Bellbrook Fire Department hosted an open house Tuesday evening.

BELLBROOK, Ohio (WDTN) – The Bellbrook Fire Department held an open house Tuesday to teach residents more about the department and how to keep their families safe in the event of an emergency.

There were demonstrations and kids got to climb on board some of the equipment.

The event was part of Fire Prevention Week, which firefighters say is all about awareness.

“This year’s theme is ‘hear the beep where you sleep,'” said Lt. Gregg Nartker. “Every bedroom needs a working smoke detector. That’s what we talked about with kids, testing your smoke detector, making sure you test it at least once a month. If it doesn’t work, you need to get a working battery in there today.”

In addition to every bedroom, firefighters say it’s also important to have a smoke detector in every level of the house, including the basement. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
