HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hartford police say that a pastor was knocked unconscious and sent to the hospital Saturday after a “crooked” Craigslist transaction.

Patrol officers responded to 106 New Park Avenue for a complaint of a street robbery around 4:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found the victim, who Deputy Chief Brian Foley has identified as a pastor, laying on the ground and disoriented.

The pastor told police that he answered a Craigslist ad and agreed to buy a cell phone for $400. They agreed to meet in a public place and exchange money for the phone.

Police say that the first suspect took the money from the pastor and the second suspect ran up and punched him in the head. The 54-year-old man was transported to Hartford Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Both suspects ran off with the money and the phone. A witness says that they saw the two suspects get into a gray Chrysler Sebring and drive away.

Officers are describing the first suspect as a black male, approximately 20-25 years old, who was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with black letters that read “FLY” across the front. The second suspect has also been described as a black male, between 140-160 pounds, wearing an all black outfit.
