Show of sportsmanship for local player battling cancer

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A show of sportsmanship Monday night between two local high school soccer teams shows what’s working in the Miami Valley.

Stivers School for the Arts played National Trail High School.

All of the proceeds from the game will help Stivers player Raelyn Rowland who is battling stomach cancer and seeking treatment in New York.

“That’s like our sister and it’s just tough not having a lot of money and then finding out when you’re 14 that you have stage 4 cancer,” said Lauren Baker, Raelyn’s teammate.

Even the opposing team played for the cause, making a donation and wearing gold leg bands to show their support.
