YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (WDTN) – Emergency crews responded to the scene of a house explosion on 1100 block East Hyde Road in Yellow Springs.

Officials with Greene County’s Miami Township Fire Department say there was a quick response from their crews and the local utility company.

A contractor was working inside the building and proceeded to walk out when the explosion happened. Officials say he narrowly escaped this explosion, believed to be caused by a gas leaked. There were no injuries or fatalities.

The building, expected to be a revenue maker, was being renovated to rent out to families. It was owned by Glen Helen Nature Preserve and Antioch College.

Matt Desjardins with Antioch College told 2 NEWS, “It’s heart-wrenching. Its a tragic event. We’re just happy that no one was injured in this event.”

The property owners say this is hopefully a short term loss.

An insurance adjuster will be working with the college and Glen Helen to further assess the damage. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
