SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – A person of interest is now the prime suspect in a double homicide in Springfield and is expected in court Friday morning.
Police moved quickly, less than 24 hours after the deadly shootings they’ve made an arrest.
Springfield police have charged 26 year old Troy Allen Holder II with 2 counts of murder.
The Super 8 Motel on West Leffel Lane in Springfield was shut down for hours, as SWAT officers went door to door, looking for a suspect in connection to the murders of 36 year old Titus Ford and 33 year old Bryant Lawson. The two were shot inside an SUV Wednesday night on Pumphouse Road.
“We wanted to move safely for not only him but the officers and we did,” said Springfield police chief Steve Moody.
After hours of negotiating, authorities took 26 year old Troy Allen Holder II to the police station for questioning.
A man who asked to not be identified says he knew one of the murder victims and was staying in a room a few doors down from Holder.
“They just asked if there was anybody else in the room, they didn’t ask no question to me. They just said that we need you to sit in the lobby for a few minutes and it turned out to be for hours,” he said, “I’m still shaken up by it. There were so many cops I didn’t even know this town had that many cops.”
Family members of the victims and the suspect were on scene and upset.
“Even though this is a tragic incident for them they are willing and very cognizant that they want us to do our job,” Chief Moody said. “That what they want, they want justice for their loved ones.”
Chief Moody said police are spread across the city and will continue collecting evidence through the night and weekend.
A relative of one of the men murdered said violence in Springfield needs to stop.
“I want to say all ya’ll young, African American men out here killing each other over senseless stuff makes no sense. We got to get it together, come together as a community. Springfield is not the same.”
Holder is to be arraigned in Springfield Municipal court Friday morning.
These shootings come a week after two separate homicides in the city.
A 26-year-old woman was found dead inside her home and a 25-year-old man shot to death during a robbery.
