INDIANAPOLIS  (WTHR) – Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis is making some changes on campus to better accommodate its LGBTQ students. It’s adding all-gender restrooms and a new LGBTQ center.

The changes are important to Li Pietruszka, a grad student who identifies as trans-masculine. While most of his fellow students probably don’t think twice about which restroom to use, he does.

“When I come to spaces where it comes down to, ‘Here’s the men’s restroom and here’s the women’s restroom,’ I feel anxious,” Pietruszka said.

He’s one of the students who worked with IUPUI to change the signage on the campus’s 15 single occupancy restrooms to “all-gender,” or open to everyone. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
