MORAINE, Ohio (WDTN) – Some considered the barn a historic landmark and now they say they’re sad to see that’s it’s nothing, but a pile of ash.
Crews were called to the 2700 block of Viking Lane around noon today. When they arrived, the fire had already fully engulfed the first floor.
And it didn’t take long before the fire spread throughout the entire structure. It eventually resulted in a total loss of the structure according to fire officials. The property itself is owned by a business.
At the time, they weren’t using the building, they were actually in the process of tearing it down. Nearby business owner Ken Jones says he was said to see the barn destroyed.
“We’ve had our company photo taken in front of the barn,” Jones said. “It’s kind of a landmark for this area. Everybody knows where that barn is, and where the old farm house is. It’s sad to see it go.”
Deputy Fire Chief David Cooper says a quick response time helped keep the flames from spreading to other buildings.
“The barns tend to go up pretty quick so we went defensive as soon as we got here and knocked the fire down,” Cooper said. “Right now, were in the mop up phase.”
