Tipp City customer thwarts restaurant robbery attempt

TIPP CITY, Ohio (WDTN) — An alert customer thwarts a robbery attempt at Tipp O’ the Town.

It happened before noon Saturday at the restaurant located at 1150 West Main Street.

According to officials, the suspect handed a worker a note demanding cash and saying he had a gun. He never displayed a weapon.

Police said the suspect then ran out the front of the business and around back to the Holiday Inn Express parking lot to try to flee in a vehicle.

A person who was eating inside the restaurant saw the incident take place. The customer, who is a CCW permit holder, chased and caught the suspect and held him until police arrived.

Walter Charles Schwytzer III, 44, is charged with aggravated robbery. He was booked into the Miami County Jail.

Police are still investigating and say additional charges could be filed.
