DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – Plans are moving forward for improvement and development at the Dayton Mall.
Residents can expect to see a ‘village center’ developed around the Dayton Mall, which will anchor the area. This proposal was approved by board members Tuesday, and the board believes the area can support this type of development.
Stantec, a Boston consulting group hired to evaluate the mall area, reports that there’s a growing residential trend near the mall and that’s there’s enough interest in improving the area with new retail options.
The proposal would create a two square mile strip of commercial and retail development surrounding the mall. Areas that could be apart of this development include what’s been designated as Lyon’s Ridge, Mad River Station, and Prestige Summit.
Officials say this would be what’s known as mixed use development, creating a more walk-able environment for shoppers and many more green spaces.
“We are looking at a 10 year plan,” Project Manager Steve Carney explained. “We did vision out to 20 years, but as we say with all of our planning efforts, if we are successful in the first 10 years, the township, the City of Miamisburg should really come together and adjust, create a new plan or significantly revise the plan to prepare for the next 10 years of development.”
Carney tells 2 NEWS while this is a long-term plan, he hopes development and changes will start to take effect.
