BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – With one weekend left till Christmas, hundreds took advantage of the warmer weather to finish up their holiday shopping.
Saturday, 2 NEWS Reporter Jordan Bowen spoke with security officials at the Greene Town Center, who say the heat brought out the biggest crowds of the year.
For many, the unusually warmer weather meant a break from in-door shopping malls and a breath of fresh air.
“It’s wonderful,” Shopper Sheri Shultz said. “It’s our last day. We came to see Santa. The kids are having a nice time. We’re getting ready to ride the carriage ride.”
The weekends leading up to Christmas draw the biggest crowds, according to Security Officer David Theiss, but he says he wasn’t expecting the hundreds that came today.
“Typically on Saturdays it’s pretty packed, but with the warmer weather there’s definitely a lot more people,” Theiss said. Theiss said it’s one of the busiest weekends he’s seen since Black Friday.
With more people, can come more potential for problems. That’s why Theiss say they’re stepping up their enforcement.
“We’re just doing a lot more with the parking lots trying to take care of and make sure there’s no car break-ins,” Theiss said. “More visibility with being larger crowds.”
Along with the parking lot, Theiss says keeping the sidewalk clear and safe for pedestrians is his top priority.
“With the sidewalks you definitely have people coming both directions,” Theiss said. “Then we got people that we try to eliminate, which is teenagers riding their skate boards and bikes and trying to keep the sidewalks a most safe zone for the pedestrians.”
