Democratic judges file for 2 open state Supreme Court seats

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Two Democratic judges have filed to run for open seats on the Ohio Supreme Court next year.

Cynthia Rice sits on the 11th Ohio District Court of Appeals in Warren and is a former county and federal prosecutor. She’ll be running against Republican Pat DeWine, a judge on the 1st Ohio District Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.

John P. O’Donnell is a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court judge and a former private attorney and insurance adjustor. He’ll face Republican Pat Fischer, also a judge on the 1st Ohio District Court of Appeals.

O’Donnell ran unsuccessfully against Republican Justice Judi French last year.

The two seats are open with justices Paul Pfeifer and Judith Lanzinger retiring because of mandatory age limits.
