Jim Barton’s case could be heard by U.S. Supreme Court

LEBANON, Ohio (WDTN) – 2 NEWS has learned that the fate of the former Springboro Police Lieutenant, Jim Barton, is now in the hands of the United States Supreme Court.

Today was was the deadline for Barton’s case to filled and his attorney, Christopher Pagan of Middletown, confirms they were filed this morning.

Barton has served ten years in prison for his role in the murder of his wife in 1995.

Barton’s wife, Vickie, was found murdered 20 years ago inside their Springboro home.

Barton was accused of hiring two men to burglarize their home and scare his wife into moving off their farm and into the city.

In may, the sixth circuit court of appeals ruled the state must either retry Barton, or release him.

2 NEWS’ Mark Allan reported in May about this high-profile case that gripped the Miami Valley for months as Barton is preparing to go before the Ohio Parole Board.
